The Public Interest Registry (PIR) has named Change Labs  the winner of its Championing Equity, Equality and Inclusion category of the .ORG Impact Awards.

Change Labs addresses the gaps in the entrepreneurial ecosystem on the Navajo and Hopi Nation, while providing resources, infrastructure and support for Native American small businesses that provide a social benefit to Tribal communities.

Seemingly simple tasks, like applying for a Tax ID number and internet access, is not as simple for people living on the reservation. Change Labs bridges the divide, helping to provide solutions to these small business owners, as well as desk space, software access, classes in website design, financial planning, leadership development and more. They’ve taken measurable steps toward increasing the number of Native-owned small businesses operating in Native communities.

Change Labs were selected for this award because of their tremendous impact seen throughout the Navajo and Hopi Nation.

“Supporting our Native communities through entrepreneurship is just one way that we can ensure the continued economic sovereignty of the Navajo and Hopi Nations,” said Heather Fleming (Diné), Executive Director of Change Labs. “Change Labs is committed to offering as many resources as possible to Native Americans who want to make social change by owning their own small business.”

PIR knows that .ORGs are connecting communities, making a difference, and utilizing the internet to drive transformative change. To celebrate and honor this incredible work, the Public Interest Registry launched the 2020 .ORG Impact Awards. Each day of the 10-day celebration will place a spotlight on award-winning organizations and individuals making our communities a better place.

This year’s event features 10 award winners announced during a digital celebration entitled the 10 Days of .ORG. PIR received over 500 submissions for the awards this year, from all around the globe. As a winner of the 2nd annual .ORG Impact Awards, Change Labs will receive a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

“Congratulations to Change Labs for being named the 2020 .ORG Impact Award winner in the Championing Equity, Equality and Inclusion category,” said Jon Nevett, President and CEO of the Public Interest Registry. “Their work is a critical part of providing equity and opportunity to Native Americans seeking to achieve their dreams by becoming small business owners.”
