This Saturday, Gun Lake Casino will open the doors to its sportsbook: Stage 131 Sportsbook and Lounge. The formal launch of the Wayland, Michigan-based casino’s sportsbook takes place at 10 a.m., when patrons can start casting bets on pro and collegiate sports, including football, basketball, baseball, golf, hockey, soccer, boxing, mixed martial arts, tennis and more.
Since Gov. Gretchen Whitmer authorized sports betting and online gaming in Michigan in December 2019, various Detroit commercial casinos opened their own books. Then several of the 12 federally recognized Tribes in Michigan — which own and operate the state’s 23 Tribal casinos — followed suit, entering partnerships to debut retail sportsbook operations.
On June 22nd, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi-owned FireKeepers Casino Hotel became the first Tribally owned gaming establishment in Michigan to open a sportsbook. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians followed, opening Kambi sportsbooks at the Tribe’s three Four Winds casinos in southwest Michigan. This week, the Hannahville Indian Community’s Island Resort & Casino, located in Harris, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, started accepting sports wagers at its BetAmerica-branded sportsbook.
